"TODAY, OH LORD, I WEEP AND MOURN
Today, Oh Lord, I weep and mourn—
For all the little ones who die.
Never seeing the light of day.
Never touching feet to the ground.
Never singing a joyful song.
Never holding their mother’s hand.
Never hearing a soft lullaby.
I weep for those who consider—
Time more important than giving me life.
I weep for those who consider—
Money more important than giving me hope.
I weep for those who consider—
One more child too much of a burden.
I weep for those who consider—
A tiny child’s life is not worth living.
I weep for those who are big and strong—
Who choose not to carry a little child.
I weep for those whose lives are too busy—
To kneel and pray homage to the newborn King.
For each child is created in the image of God
The King of the Universe, creator of all.
I weep for the fathers who will never see
or rock their own child tenderly.
I weep for the grandparents who will not hear the patter
Of tiny little feet running around with laughter.
I weep for the teachers who will never be born.
Or the doctors and lawyers, judges and legislators.
I weep for the nation who has turned a blind eye
To the holocaust daily taking place in their towns,
Villages, cities, suburbs and states.
I weep for the mission that will never be fulfilled.
I weep for the little ones God loves so much.
I ask the angels to carry them upward—
Into the arms of their loving mother,
Into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ—
Into the arms of unconditional love.
